I Love to Read (Quiero Leer)
This comprehensive program for families includes the
following components:
 |
Earl Childhood Education (ECE) Center
This program is divided into two sessions (one in
the a.m. and one in the afternoon), which serve a total of 69
children, birth to 5 years. These children are provided
age-appropriate educational services each day, learning basic skills
necessary for school-readiness by the age of six.
|
|
|
 |
FamilyRead
Modeled
after the nationally acclaimed Mother-read program, Family-Read
facilitators meet weekly with a total of 20 parents, for more than 2
hours, to develop family literacy skills among parents of children
between the ages of 2 and 4. |
|
|
 |
Parenting Education
Through
a partnership with North Valley Occupational Center, parents
participate in a parenting education course each week. |
|
|
 |
English as a Second Language Training
While their young children are in the
ECE Center, 38 adult learners are next door participating in rigorous
ESL education provided by an LA Unified School District Adult
Education teacher. In the evening, an additional group (many of whom
are fathers of children in the ECE Center) take part in an ESL class
that averages 50 participants a day.
